The definition of an Intervention is an immediate approach to a person of concern, to resolve a personal crisis and stop their self-destructive behavior. The overall purpose of an intervention is to confront a loved one, who is in need of help, and persuade them into treatment. Although some believe one must “hit bottom” before they are ready, often people who enter treatment due to an intervention, have incredible success. A professional intervention is a catalyst for change, through approaching a person of concern in a non-threatening way, in which they can see their self-destructive behavior and how it affects them, their family, and friends. This displays to the person of concern that they need professional help, so they can recover from this disease. Those concerned for their loved one, will be coached on talking to the person who has been engaging in self-destructive behavior. They will have the opportunity to be open and honest with the person of concern, regarding their behavior, and how it affects them.
